Inception Meeting on the Pilot project, “Building Climate Resilience of Forest Dependent Communities in Uttarakhand’’

A inception meeting was held on 23 May 2017 with the  project beneficiaries at  Kimoda tok of gram Panchayat, Feri Ki-moda,  Jaunpur block of Teri Garhwal to appraise  them with the activities covered under the project. The meeting was attended by Mr. R.N Jha, Chief Conservator of Forests/ nodal officer for State climate Change Centre, Uttarakhand and Mr. kavi Dayal, Conservator of Forest, Yamuna Forest Division, Dr. Saket Badola, Divisional Forest Officer along with UNDP state project officials other forest officials.

During their address to the villagers, they highlighted the impact of climate change in the Himalayan region and   importance of building climate resilience towards such impacts. The climate adaptation strategies developed under this pilot project were briefed to the participants. The villagers also raised some important concerns and suggested plantation of fodder plants in the vicinity closer to the village to safeguard Forests from being used as source of fodder that leads to deforestation. One of the ladies also presented an idea of creating community level  Bio-gas units as an alternative to firewood
